Martial arts, though is considered a very old form of fighting techniques, it is still practiced by a few. Most of this is now found in the interior parts of the respective states. Each state has a different form enhancing their value and power and this differs in the weapons, styles, and forms. But the main purpose of any of this is self-protection. This is the basic teaching and learning in all forms of martial arts. This has now become more important in the present age, especially for girls since there are threats from all sides to them and they are in fact the ones who should be well-versed in the various forms and the right time and situation to use them correctly.
While a few practice this for protection, a few others practice this for fitness. While practicing martial arts, the person is required to exert energy by putting his body under tremendous pressure. This pushes and demands the body to burn all the calories it has in excess. All the fat that is accumulated in the body is what gets transferred to energy. And this is done to the fullest when a person practices martial arts continuously. It will also give a proper regime to the body and tries to maintain it in shape forever.
The numbers of schools teaching different forms of this art are decreasing because the number of people willing to learn this is going down badly. But this has not impacted its significance or importance in any way. There are scriptures that talk about the importance of these different forms and what all they did in the ancient days helping the kings in being victorious. All these are still found in the museums and archeological department as a proof for their existence and essence in life.
